Grand Opening of the 4th International Open WAKO Kickboxing Championship 2025

World-Class Tournament Kicks Off at Indira Gandhi Sports Stadium, New Delhi

New Delhi: Sports enthusiasts in India witnessed a historic moment as the 4th International Open WAKO Kickboxing Championship 2025 commenced with grandeur at the Indira Gandhi International Sports Complex, K.D. Jadhav Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The prestigious event features over 2,000 kickboxing athletes from 22 countries, competing across various categories.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including WAKO Kickboxing Federation Chairman and five-time World Champion Mr. Roy Baker, Indian Kickboxing Federation Chairman Mr. Santosh Agarwal, Pro-Chancellor of Venkateshwara University & National Vice President of Indian Kickboxing Federation Dr. Rajeev Tyagi, Haryana Additional Chief Secretary & Senior IAS Officer Mr. Anand Mohan Saran, and WAKO International Kickboxing Technical Committee Chairman Mr. Romeo Deja. They formally inaugurated the championship by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

India takes pride in hosting this prestigious championship, featuring elite athletes from Britain, Ireland, Germany, Croatia, Estonia, Australia, UAE, Finland, Kazakhstan, Russia, Switzerland, and other leading nations. Competitors will battle across Junior, Sub-Junior, and Senior divisions.

Dr. Rajeev Tyagi, National Vice President of the Indian Kickboxing Federation, remarked:

"The inclusion of kickboxing in the 'Khelo India' initiative by the Government of India signifies a bright future for the sport. Soon, it will also be a part of the Olympic Games. This championship plays a crucial role in establishing India's presence on the global kickboxing stage."

He also announced that Venkateshwara University will host a National Kickboxing Championship in April 2025 to further promote the sport.

The opening event was further enriched by spectacular cultural performances by Indian artists, mesmerizing the audience and international guests. The vibrant showcase of Indian traditions and artistry received widespread appreciation.

The championship will run from February 3 to February 6, 2025, culminating in a grand awards ceremony on February 5, where ministers and diplomats from various nations will honor the winners with medals and accolades.

🌍 Global Sports Fraternity Extends Best Wishes

Dr. Sudhir Giri, Founder-President of Venkateshwara Group, extended his best wishes to the nation for hosting this prestigious championship. Chief Referee Antonio Sirendolo (Switzerland), Edil Baykyujev (Uzbekistan), Marsh Peter (England), and David Marsh (Estonia), along with several international sports officials, also conveyed their congratulations on the successful organization of the event.

The occasion was also attended by Prof. (Dr.) Krishnakant Dave, CEO Ajay Srivastava, Registrar Dr. Piyush Pandey, and Meerut Campus Director Dr. Pratap from Venkateshwara University, along with several distinguished guests.
