Seminar on “Importance of Indian Constitution” Held at Venkateshwara Institute on Constitution Day

Meerut: A national seminar on the theme “The Importance of the Indian Constitution in the Rights of the Common Man” was organized on Constitution Day at Shri Venkateshwara University and Institute, located on the National Highway Bypass. Eminent speakers, legal experts, and students discussed the unique strengths of the Indian Constitution, highlighting its commitment to equality and fundamental rights for all citizens.

The seminar commenced in the B.R. Ambedkar Central Auditorium with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp before the statue of Goddess Saraswati by Founder-Chairman Dr. Sudhir Giri, Pro-Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Tyagi, Principal Advisor Prof. V.P.S. Arora, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Krishna Kant Dave, and other distinguished guests.


Constitution: A Pillar of Democracy

In his keynote address, Dr. Sudhir Giri stated, “India’s independence was not just about breaking free from British rule but about empowering every citizen through the world’s most powerful constitution. It has made India the strongest democratic nation by granting every individual their fundamental rights and duties.”

Pro-Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Tyagi highlighted the transformative impact of rights such as the Right to Education, Right to Equality, Right to Privacy, and Right to Freedom. He remarked, “With these fundamental rights, even a common man today can stand equal to those at the highest echelons of power. For instance, the Right to Education ensures that a child from a disadvantaged background can access quality education in prestigious schools without financial burden.”

Equality and Empowerment Through Voting
Prof. Rajvardhan Singh of the School of Law emphasized the equality enshrined in the Constitution. He said, “The Constitution ensures that the vote of a common man holds the same value as that of the Prime Minister or President, showcasing the true strength of Indian democracy.”

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Krishna Kant Dave urged everyone to uphold their constitutional duties alongside their rights. He said, “While the Constitution empowers us with rights, it also entrusts us with responsibilities towards the nation. Honoring these duties is paramount to strengthening the democratic fabric.”

Oath to Protect Constitutional Values
Registrar Dr. Piyush Pandey administered an oath to the assembled staff and students, pledging adherence to the Constitution and its principles of equality, freedom, and justice.

Discussions on Constitutional Empowerment
The seminar featured addresses by legal scholars and educators, including Dr. Rajvardhan Singh, Dr. Madhu Chaturvedi, and Dr. Rajesh Singh, who elaborated on the relevance of the Constitution in modern times. They emphasized the importance of upholding both the rights and duties it enshrines.

Dignitaries and Attendees
The event saw active participation from notable academicians, including Dr. T.P. Singh, Dr. Divya Girdhar, Dr. Ashutosh Singh, Dr. Yogeshwar Singh, Dr. Anil Jaiswal, Dr. Shilpa Raina, and Dr. Seema Sharma. Dr. Pratap Singh, Director of the Meerut campus, and Media Coordinator Vishwas Rana were also present.

A Commitment to Constitutional Integrity
The seminar concluded with a collective pledge to protect and honor the Constitution. The event served as an inspiring platform to educate students about their constitutional rights and responsibilities, fostering a deeper understanding of its significance in shaping an equitable and democratic society.
